There was a choice for active or inactive, but you were made to feel like an idiot if you went with inactive, which I did. Now the active polio is banned (since 2000), they only give the inactive due to the large amount of kids getting vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis, which is a side effect from the live polio. Once VAPP has developed, the paralysis and associated complications are irreversible. One would think this would be told to unsuspecting parents BEFORE they have their children vaccinated. I love to read your blog by the way!!

Not a pediatrician, but I have heard that there is a doctor right near us, on Ballenger, who supports not vaccinating, or at least doesn't actively oppose it. Can't think of his name right now, but it starts with an "N".

Have you found a pediatrician in the area who is supportive of an alternate vaccine schedule? We take Ava to a pedi in Davison and he is 'okay' with our choice for selective vaccination, but not what I would call 'supportive.'

The news regarding Lancet's retraction of the study showing possible link of MMR and autism. Hmmm, so much to say about that one.

I'm fairly certain it was an oral for polio. It was over 7 years ago though, so I could be mistaken. I do remember them asking if I wanted the live or inactive. I think I chose inactive. My mom later told me that when I had been given the live vaccine as a child, I was stiff and could not move my legs for several days.
